This course emphasizes: A course designed to develop healthcare-specific knowledge and skills in effective communications, ethical and legal responsibilities, client care, safety, first aid, and CPR. This course prepares the student for the transition to clinical or work based learning experiences in health care

 

Pathophysiology (30H112)

Grades: 10-12      Length: 1 year      Credit: 1      GPA weight: 1.0

Prerequisite: Principles of Health Science

This course emphasizes: In this course, students conduct laboratory investigations and fieldwork, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and problem solving. Students study disease processes and how humans are affected. Emphasis is placed on prevention and treatment of diseases. Students will differentiate between normal and abnormal physiology.

 

Health Science Theory (30H14F, &3014S)

Grades: 11-12      Length: 1 year      Credit: 1           GPA weight: Fall 1.1, Spring 1.2

Prerequisite: Pathophysiology

Must be approved by teacher. Students have to leave campus.

This course emphasizes: Providing for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. The course may be taught by different methodologies such as clinical rotation and career preparation learning.

Health Science Theory with Clinicals (30H15F & 30H15S)

Grades: 11-12     Length: 1 year        Credit: 2         GPA Weight: Fall 1.1, Spring 1.2

Prerequisite: Pathophysiology

This course emphasizes: It is designed to provide for the development of multi-occupational knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will shadow health care professionals and have some, limited, hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development during the second semester.

 

Practicum in Health Science (For MA: 30H912; For Pharm. Tech: 30H922)

Grades: 12      Length: 1 year      Credit: 2      GPA weight: 1.1

Prerequisite: Health Science Theory

Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Technician Certification class

This course emphasizes: The Lab-based Practicum is designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. All students in this course will be working towards certification as an Certified Medical Assistant or Pharmacy Technician.

Sports Medicine 1, 2, 3  (30H211, 30H212, 30H213)

Grades: 10-12    Length: 1 year    Credit: 1    GPA Weight: 1.0

Prerequisite: Principles of Health Science

Please Note:  Must fill out application, and be approved. Students will work hands on with athletes of all sports, while learning the basics of sports medicine, First aid and CPR. 

**Students are required to attend preseason football, in the summer, as well as several hours outside of school for practices and games.
